I cannot believe it’s already February 8th! It feels like 2025 has already been filled with miracles and blessings. Looking back at 2024, I am incredibly grateful for every hard day and every joyful moment. Business-wise, we ended the year on such a strong note, accomplishing everything we set out to do and more. Thank you, 2024, in every way possible!
I took a much-needed pause at the start of the year to reflect, recharge, and spend quality time with my husband and kids. In January, I prepared for an intentional and long-awaited trip to my home country, Nepal. On January 10th, I flew there with two amazing friends who were visiting Nepal for the first time. Seeing Nepal through their eyes was a gift—I experienced and appreciated my homeland in an even deeper way because of them.
A Transformative Trip to Nepal
I returned to Minnesota on February 2nd, greeted by my two sick kids. Instantly, I had to shift into “mom mode,” with no time to recuperate from the trip. Such is the life of an entrepreneur—let’s just say, “boss wife” mode is always on! Almost a week has passed, and I have yet to sit down for a quiet conversation with my husband about new business ideas for the year ahead.
Today, as snow falls outside and Namaste Brows and Boutique sees fewer customers due to the weather, I finally have a moment to reflect and share my thoughts. Before my trip, we held a family meeting for Namaste Brows and Boutique and set a big goal: to work smarter and double our impact in 2025. I already feel the traction; customers are demanding more, and my trip to Nepal has given me even greater clarity and inspiration.
For the first six days in Nepal, I embarked on a hiking trip—something I was both excited and nervous about. With back pain and exhaustion from working non-stop from September to December, I wasn’t sure how I’d handle it. But I told myself, “I will do this.” And I did. We walked 7-9 hours every day, and to my surprise, I felt no pain. Being at the foot of the mountains in Nepal was a deeply emotional experience. Looking up at their majestic heights reminded me that I, too, am a mountain—strong, persistent, and standing tall no matter what. Tears filled my eyes, not just because of their beauty, but because they reminded me of my ancestors—their struggles, their resilience, and the free and abundant life I get to live today. I am so proud to be Nepali, from a country known for its breathtaking mountains and even more beautiful people.
Connecting, Giving Back, and Growing My Vision
The next 12 days in Kathmandu were everything I had dreamed of when I first became an entrepreneur. Each morning, I woke up to the peaceful sounds of temple bells, did my quiet time, meditated, and planned my day with intention. Breakfast was homemade and healthy, enjoyed in the serene garden of our hotel, where the staff’s warm hospitality made me feel like a queen.
Each day was filled with meaningful connections. I visited my childhood school, met with inspiring local entrepreneurs, and connected with organizations that support disabled children, senior homes, and efforts to combat human trafficking. I even spent time at a Bihar, listening, praying, and giving to monks. Evenings were reserved for reconnecting with family, visiting my hometown, and immersing myself in familiar yet ever-changing surroundings.
A Business Trip with a Bigger Purpose
The last week of my trip became all about business. I explored local vendor markets and met so many talented artisans. Two of my favorites were ST Maharjan Jewelry and Kasya, whose craftsmanship and stories deeply moved me. I interviewed them, purchased their collections, and can’t wait to introduce them to my customers in Minnesota.
I also had the honor of spending time with the owner and team of Kokroma in Bauddha. They specialize in beautifully crafted children’s clothing, and I am thrilled to bring their collection to Namaste Brows and Boutique. I spent time with workers at the factory, gifted them small tokens from the U.S., and supported them financially. Witnessing their dedication and skill reaffirmed my desire to showcase Nepali craftsmanship on a larger scale.
In addition, I visited felt, cotton, and hemp companies, which left me incredibly inspired to create my own signature designs this year and beyond. Partnering with new Nepali artisans felt perfectly aligned with my vision. One day, I stepped away from my business mindset and visited Bhaktapur, a city that taught me confidence and contentment. Unlike typical tourist spots, shopkeepers there didn’t push me to buy anything; they simply focused on perfecting their craft. One of my favorite experiences was taking a pottery class, where I made a small bowl for my daughter—a tangible memory of this life-changing trip.
Educating Kids: A Mission Close to My Heart
One of the biggest highlights of my trip was the opportunity to meet two single mothers in Kathmandu. Education is my mission because children are the future, and I knew I had to step in to help. I have decided to support them by covering their children's school expenses, including tuition, stationery, books, and uniforms. It was incredibly special to tour their school, meet the teachers and principal, and connect with the kids. Seeing the relief in the eyes of those women reminded me exactly why I work so hard. This is the impact we at Namaste Brows and Boutique dream of making—and now, we are doing even more.
Balancing Two Worlds
Now, six days back in Minnesota, my back pain has returned, reminding me of how much I miss Nepal’s sun and homemade, healthy food. Since 2011, Minnesota has been my home, and I am incredibly grateful for all the opportunities this country has given me. But for the first time, I feel like I have one foot in two boats—deeply connected to both America and Nepal.
I feel a strong responsibility to be a bridge between these two cultures, to bring Nepali artistry, traditions, and resilience to the world while embracing the opportunities and growth that America has offered me. Namaste Brows and Boutique will be my vehicle for this mission—celebrating the American dream that has shaped my journey while amplifying the work of hardworking Nepali artisans.
Looking Ahead: Big Dreams for 2025
So much is in store for this year—big ideas, new collaborations, and lots of exciting surprises! I am beyond grateful for all the love and support from my community. Thank you for being part of this journey. 2025, we’re just getting started!
Stay tuned, and as always,
Jeena Gurung Vomhof
